The future of freight: toll road policy and administration

The Queensland Trucking Association has been representing the freight industry for over a hundred years. With momentum building toward significant policy change in the road transport sector, Hamilton Stone assisted the Association to develop and communicate its thinking around one of the more controversial aspects of the transport system: toll roads. The Queensland Parliament is currently conducting an inquiry into toll roads in that state. In its submission to the inquiry, the Association has raised two key issues: the increasing cost of tolls to the industry, as the number of toll roads keeps growing; and the need for any new charging regime for trucks to take tolls into account, rather than treating them separately. This is all part of the work to be done to fulfil the vision of Australia's transport ministers, of heavy vehicle road reform that makes "road infrastructure into an economic service".
